The Spirit of St. Louis

With Valentine’s Day in February, this  is a month when I look at all the people and things I love in my life including, family, friends, work and everything else that brings me joy and all that I feel passionate about.  I firmly believe that success in one’s professional life includes having a passion for what you do, taking risks, seizing opportunities and creating one’s own destiny.  Recently, I read an article from the Daily Worth which described entrepreneurs who changed their passion into profit.  So many new entrepreneurs in St. Louis are doing the same and the ripple effect for our city, for the workplace and for the community is energizing.

This spirit has been a St. Louis tradition for the last 250 years and we at NextGen are commemorating our city’s 250 year birthday by “Showing St. Louis Some Love” with 250 Random Acts of Kindness.  With simple acts and kind words we can help make a small difference in someone’s day and in so doing, pass on and pay forward positive moments, effecting positive change.   While the StL 250 Birthday in 2014 includes many fun and exciting special events, the celebration also invites everyone to make a commitment to our communities and neighborhoods through volunteer service.

In partnership with the United Way of Greater St. Louis and AmeriCorps,  St. Louis  StL 250 has a goal of recruiting 250,000 volunteers to log 1 million volunteer hours. This is an amazing testimony to the generous spirit of St. Louisans and we at NextGen are excited to play our own small part in showing our city some love and giving back to our hometown.

Part of St. Louis’ colorful history includes innovative business.  In my role at NextGen, I have the opportunity to see innovation in business, everyday.  Innovation is fueled by passion and at NextGen there are things we are truly passionate about including diversity in the workplace, the importance of community involvement and civic responsibility, mentoring our youth, creating a dynamic and positive work environment, providing opportunities for an inter-generational workplace and helping to create a healthy work life balance for our employees. In this framework there are a few simple things we work to include in each business day at NextGen.  We strive for meaningful dialogue, say thank you and show our appreciation, listen to everyone’s ideas, trust that each person is doing their best,  support one another during off days or difficult times and have a bit of fun and spontaneity in the day.  We have always based our business on sound business practices; exceeding our clients’ expectations and helping our consultants fulfill their professional dreams.  Long standing productive and positive business partnerships have been the cornerstone to our success throughout these last 16 years.   However, in addition to our day to day work, we strive to build a dynamic corporate culture which supports our business initiatives and our mission, as well as the people behind it...and that I believe is in keeping with the true Spirit of St. Louis…a great place to work, live, play and invest.
